Thy Pleasure on My Holy Day

Sabbath in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday

Would it have been love for God by anointing the body of Jesus Christ after the Sabbath had begun? No, No, No.

While it would seem like a good thing to embalm the body of Jesus on Sabbath, He would have told her not to do it!

Why?

Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15

According to the Bible, it’s good to do good on the Sabbath, and that’s true, but to break God’s Commandment in order to anoint the body of the Messiah was not reason enough to sin. Sin is the transgression of the law and working on the Sabbath is a sin.

Some say that after the death of Christ, the Sabbath changed. Some say it changed from the seventh day to the first day. Wrong!

Some say you can keep any day as long as you rest one day a week. WRONG!

Jesus was dead and these followers of Christ wouldn’t anoint His body because they wouldn’t break God’s Commandment. They ‘rested according to the Commandment’.

Question: Which Commandment?

Answer: The Sabbath Commandment

Jesus died on Friday. They took Him down from the cross and laid Him in the tomb. The women prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day which began at sunset on Friday (According to the Bible, a new day begins at Sunset, not at midnight).

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning (Easter) Sunday, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared on (Good) Friday.

“If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words” Isaiah 58:13

Luke 23:52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. “Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.“ Luke 24:1

Bible Truth: Sunday (the first day of the week) is the first work day of the week and is not holy because God never made it holy.

According to the Bible, the real weekend is Friday (preparation) and Saturday (Sabbath)!!!
